NO SIDELINE COACHING

The whistle blows. The game belongs to the kids. Give players freedom to express themselves, experiment, take on opponents and make their own decisions.

What The Experts Say

More involvement. More decisions. More freedom to play.

Why 3v3?

“The 3v3 format gives players more ownership. They’ll manage the games themselves, just like they would in the playground.”

England Football Learning

Context: Guidance for England’s 3v3 format.

“players passed the ball twice as frequently in the 3v3 format when compared to 7v7.”

England Football Learning

Context: Observed U9-U12 academy games · pass attempts per outfield player over ten minutes of ball-in-play time.

Why no sideline coaching?

“Let them play – help the players to own their space on the pitch and connect with each other.”

The FA · Silent Support guidance

“Because solutions are rarely prescribed, players are encouraged to experiment, take risks and solve problems independently.”

FIFA Training Centre

Context: On creativity in 3v3.

Our approach

Positive encouragement is welcome. Our league asks adults to avoid directing play during matches.

WHY 3v3?

01

2 x 20-MIN WEEKLY GAMES

40-minutes of gameplay designed for maximum ball contact and high-intensity play. 2-3x more touches than a 7v7 game.

02

REFEREES

Officiating ensures fair play and consistent game management for every match, and score keeping.

03

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE KITS!

All players are put into Champions League teams, every child gets a full kit (value $90).

04

1V1 OPPORTUNITIES

More 1v1 opportunities to build confidence and individual decision-making skills.

05

MORE TOUCHES

With fewer players sharing the ball, kids get in the ball 2-3x more time than a 7v7 game.

06

PLAYER FREEDOM

Freedom to experiment with your own game without sideline coaching. This is the perfect environment to try new things.

07

DECISION-MAKING

Learn through real choices about possession, passing and dribbling.

08

COMPETITIVE, BUT FUN

Real matches with structure and standards, without losing the joy.

+

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE KIT?

Champions League-style kits are included. Players are responsible for their own shin guards and socks.

+

IS THERE SIDELINE COACHING?

NO! There is no coaching during matches. Players have the freedom to try new skills, make decisions and learn through the game. Once the whistle blows, the game belongs to the kids. This is the essence of the league.

+

WHAT IS THE LOCATION?

MLS Arena, 641 Danforth Ave, Toronto. Games are held on Sundays.

+

HOW DO I MAKE A FRIEND REQUEST?

List the friends your child would like to play with in the registration form. Squads can have up to 5 players in total, including your child. Each parent registers their own child.

+

HOW ARE PLAYERS ASSIGNED TO TEAMS, AND CAN THEY PLAY WITH FRIENDS?

Players can register as individuals or with friends, with a maximum of 5 players per squad. Each parent registers their own child and lists their friends’ names in the registration form. Players registering individually will be assigned to a squad.

Our aim is to keep squads together for the 12-week season. Weeks 1 and 2 are alignment weeks, when team results help us place squads into competitive divisions.

+

HOW ARE DIVISIONS DETERMINED?

Weeks 1 and 2 will be alignment weeks. Teams will play a few games, and divisions will then be determined based on team records from those alignment weeks. This will help ensure competitive games with fewer mismatches.
